2017 Season at NBBC is underway!
On June 10th, our 108th year of service to those of need began giving
us yet another opportunity to provide an exciting and fun summer,
hosting scores of children and young adults, proudly carrying on
the legacy and mission of Norman B. Barr. Through the efforts of
our crew of volunteers during the past few months, we've worked
hard to get the camp ready. Our facilities have undergone renovations
and our grounds have been groomed following the long winter. Our
Board of Directors worked together planning the programs, hiring
the staff and arranging the group schedules, which include ten camper
groups this summer.
Introducing Our 2017 Camp Staff NBBC is lucky to again welcome back many employees from last
season for another great summer. Under the direction of veteran
managers Bill Tarver and Cindy Reiland (co-managers this year),
most of the staff is familiar and recognizable, some having been
here for numerous summers (they must really like it here)! We also
welcome some new faces and hope that you'll introduce yourselves
to them and make them feel welcome.
Children's Program Staff
Once again, this year's counselors are top notch providing our campers
with an array of activities, adventure and FUN! This diverse group
of young people, lead by our Program Director Megan, (back for her
third year with us), include Alex from DeKalb, Courtney from St.
Louis, Joe from Naperville and Tyler from North Carolina. We welcome them to our camp family!
Need Continues During the past few summer's,
NBBC's Camper Program has expanded and made great strides. The summer
of 2015 introduced Kayaks to our Waterfront and visits from "The
Science Guy". Plus, NBBC added a visiting artist program and entertaining
magician to the mix of activities. The summer of 2016 brought even
more new programs including the extremely popular traveling "Reptile
Show". This summer will be no exception to the past as we have
more new and exciting programs and activities planned including
Providing economically disadvantaged
children and those with special needs with totally free summer camp
experiences would not be possible without the generosity of individuals
and companies outside of our operation. They have assisted our efforts
through donations of goods, services and funding.
